By CJ This is a really cool toy, just don't get it for a child who is impatient! It actually takes weeks to months for one continuous cycle of rolling before a small amount of rocks are ready. I thought it would only take a day or two for this to make some cool rocks, but it says it takes a minimum of 4 weeks and recommends 6-8 weeks for optimal stones. That's continuous, not turn it off overnight and turn it back on kind of thing. And it is loud. It is grinding and rolling stones around plus the motor makes noises, so it's awful to have in a room where you're trying to watch tv or sleep, or even at night when you're trying to sleep! We have to put ours in our unfinihsed basement and can still hear it at night going and going. After awhile you get used to the noise, but you cannot forget to go down every few days to a couple weeks to rinse the rocks off, change the grit, etc. Having a very impatient child(ren) in my home, I doubt we will use this more than two or three times ever. But if you have a child who's facinated by the whole process and is a very patient child, this would be great. It is very educational, espeically if you purchase some books about rocks when you get it.
