Smithsonian Crystal Growing Set Feb 17, 2010
By T-Bone We finally decided to get this out and grow a couple of crystals, the end result was not too spectacular, and not worth the price my mother paid for it. The one problem I saw was that when adding the hot water to the crystals, it did not disolve all the solution, thus making small end products. It did make crystals, but they did not look like the ones on the package, so keep that in mind if you decide to purchase this kit.

Don't Let the Photos Fool You Sep 25, 2011
By Laura McElroy for Reader Views We received this as a gift and were really looking forward to seeing these beautiful crystals grow! After waiting a week and seeing not much happen, I contacted the company to get a replacement thinking we got a defective product. They happily sent us another one. We just got around to growing the crystals again this week and were disappointed yet again. This time they did actually grow, but only a fraction of what you are lead to believe it was going to produce. Furthermore they don't look anything like the amazing crystals on the packaging. The kids were excited to see "something" growing after a week... False advertising and a waste of time.
Big Disappointment Jan 18, 2012
By Shaun Manning This item was a big disappointment. I had told my sisters to purchase crystal growing kits for my kids for Christmas. They are seven and eight years old and very interested in geology and crystals (because of a big study at the school). I thought they would LOVE these crystals. They look so cool on the box. We opened the box and got out the items. One or two of the little growing cups were broken inside just because they are such a flimsy plastic. But that was okay, I had a cup or two in my kitchen that I cold replace them with. The directions say the crystals should form after four days. They did not. I let them sit for two weeks. Some crystals formed, but it was terrible and nothing like on the box. It was a big disappointment, a waste of time, energy and a big wast of money. I am very surprised that Smithsonian has their name on this product.
