The Valley Soft-Touch 20 Oz Pointed Tip Rock Hammer or Chipping Hammer, sometimes called a Rock Pick, has a 20 ounce head and is constructed of one piece drop forged steel with continuous forging grain flow from head to shaft. A favorite of Rockhounds and Geologist, the rubber grip is finger fitted, shock absorbent and non-slip. The Valley 20 Soft-Touch Oz Pointed Tip Rock Hammer is similar to the Estwing Supreme 22 oz Pointed Tip Rock Hammer. It differs from the Estwing mostly in the design of the grip and it is a bit shorter. The pointed tip doesn't have as much bend or bow to it as does the Estwing Supreme Pointed Tip Rock Hammer. The Valley Soft-Touch 20 Oz Pointed Tip Rock Hammer has a square faced striking head on one end and a pointed tip on the other. The pointed tip is used for chipping or prying out a specimen.The Valley Soft-Touch 20 Oz Pointed Tip Rock Hammer is a great tool for the professional or recreational geologist, or any rockhound and will last you a life time.

Excellent Rock Hounding Tool Jul 19, 2010

I have broken open a number of rocks with this hammer and have yet to need to resharpen it; it is excellent for trenching through sand on the beach or loosening rocks from clusters as well as splitting them. I won't go anywhere in the mountains without this tool in my vehicle, it works great on its own or with a small sledge to the flat head to chip away larger stones or for precision cuts. Great tool, excellent quality, looking forward to more expeditions with this hammer at my side.

having a rocky backyard, this tool is a godsend. I love it. Its very heavy and I use the side, tip and hammer for various jobs. Works my small biceps.
