Estwing = rock hammer May 31, 2008
By Ross A. Brunetti
"RB"
Pros:
The longer handle gives extra leverage for prying, and more momentum for breaking. Remember that "breaking" can include splitting fallen tree limbs for firewood.
Cons:
A bit heavier and bulkier than the 14 oz.

Really nice Aug 30, 2011
By wayne robert ivey The Estwing long handled rock hammer is perfect for use in digging up targets found by a metal detector: It is light enough to carry but heavy enough to break through any caliche. The long handle gives good leverage so that the wrist does not tire with use. It is, of course, unbreakable since the handle and head are solid. I have used various picks including a special pick made for metal detecting digging, but none of them are better than the Estwing LH rock hammer.

Should I love a hammer this much? Aug 16, 2011

"SBH!"
This pick hammer is a work of art! What a magnificent tool...out in the field it is just fantastic. It is the most primal of all tools! I seriously feel like more of a man just holding in my hand. Hahaha. I marvel at its construction. Way to go Estwing with this superior quality product.
But, for real, what I thought would be too much weight, turned out to be just the kind of heft and balanced mass to break and split things with ease and little effort. The extended handle has the hammer doing all the work with less stress on the wrist and arm.
I use it for so many things--splitting wood, chipping stone, breaking rock, digging holes and prying stones from the hardest of ground, not to mention tapping in my tent stakes and several other tasks. My camping buddies poked fun at me at first; "Whaddya gonna do with that thing?" TURNS OUT, EVERYTHING! I used it all weekend for innumerable tasks. They were impressed by the end of the trip and were eager to get one of their own.
And the holder that came with it? Well, it was bigger than I though it would be, but not bigger than it needs to be. It's also stronger than I thought it would be. Utterly perfect for the hammer and fits on my belt just fine; I tend to rotate it on my belt toward the back of my hip. It stays put.
I will not go on another hike or adventure or camping trip without this thing on my belt. I am so glad I bought it as a birthday gift to myself. Who was gonna by me a pick hammer anyway, right?
Extra long handle Dec 12, 2011
By IT GOLD I got this hammer because i like to snipe with a snorkel and mask. The longer handle means i have to dive less often to reach crevices and cracks. This thing gets it done.
Simplistic beauty and everlasting durability Oct 19, 2011
By Charles Moher Heaven and earth may come to pass but this wonderful tool will last forever. Pick and leather sheath, if you get one, are made in the USA, believe it or not...... and it shows !!
(This photo must be of the shorter version of this pick as it is not proportionate to the long handle model)
