Extremely useful for so many tasks Nov 05, 2010

First, this hammer is not only well made, but perfectly balanced for an Engineer's hammer. An Engineer's hammer has a smaller face on the head than a normal drilling hammer, this one measuring at 1.625 inches. Its overall length is not 16, but 14.75 inches, and its head and throat (what most people simply call the "head") measure 5.125 inches long. This smaller face and longer head allows you to reach into places a hand sledge or drilling hammer would not, and it allows you to punch through rocks or split them with less force. I suppose it would be great as a demolition tool to loosen framing, but I haven't tried that. Second, as usual, Estwing designed this well: its balanced lets you hit your target more accurately, and though it's 4-lbs., it doesn't feel like it when you're swinging. There's no shock returned through the handle no matter how hard you strike. That's very, very rare. Third, it has a hard plastic end cap at the base of the handle where you can lean, position, tap, or dig without damaging the nylon handle. I love it and used it right away to drive spikes into 6x6" posts. I can't recommend it enough!

This type of hammer is far easier to use than the standard wood- or vinyl-handled type. The weight distribution makes it much less tiring to use all day, plus it's pretty much indestructible. Well worth your money.

Having owned three Estwing hammers for well over 25 yrs, and two others for a shorter period of time... I can say that Estwing hammers are indestructible , perfectly balanced , easy on your hands and a no-brainer in choice of hammer manufacturer. I still have and use the first three hammers . 16 oz. straight claw, 22 oz straight claw , 3 lb short handle sledge. I was a residential remodeling carpenter for over 25 yrs , and these served me well thru the years of use and abuse...from demolition to trim work, never breaking and not even a hint of wear on the handles of even my oldest Estwing...the 3 lb sledge. I still use the 3 lb. sledge in my new trade (been at it for 6 yrs now), auto technician. I bought two ball peen Estwing hammers a few years back... 16 oz and 23 oz. They are excellent hammers as well...I will be buying the E6-32BP tonight , for when I have to 'reach out and touch something' in a tight place on a car or truck, with a little more authority...lol.
If you want to buy a hammer that will last you a lifetime of use and abuse...stick with Estwing !
