This is so effective for breaking into rocks, splitting joints and fractures, that I've stopped carrying my rock hammer. I'm willing to pull the extra weight of this chisel and a crack hammer instead. My only recommendation would be to either strengthen eliminate the plastic end-piece. It blew apart after just an afternoon of breaking petrified wood. This makes no difference in performance however. Not sure why they even bother with it in the first place. I'll also add the the steel of this chisel is amazingly strong, holds up better than any other rock tool I own (only the paleo pick, also from Estwing, has fared so well after many outings) Very impressive.

First of all there are 2 different images of this chisel. Second it says it is a 9", but actually it is a 12" chisel. A bit long for what I want to use it for. Other than that the quality is very good, and I do like the fact it is made in the USA, and not in CHINA like everything else.

I bought this to undo a "repair" to a shower involving concrete over the tile. When using it in this task, I found it very effective. The striking cap provided a decent sized target and muffled the noise nicely (though I did wear hearing protection). I found it to be very precise-I was able to remove the concrete without breaking the tile.
I also used it to split and shape some brick and some concrete retaining wall stones. It worked quite well when I needed to make somewhat precise strikes.
Overall, a very useful tool and well worth adding to your toolkit.

Nothing extraordinary about this chisel; it's exactly as described except mine had a large plastic endcap to hammer. I use this size to split and shape landscaping rocks and bricks around the house.
