This is not a toy... Jun 25, 2011

i have had one of these machines for 3 years and have used it regularly. It is a sturdy little machine, and will give good results, provided you keep in mind the limitations and nature of vibrating tumblers.
Vibrating tumblers used for rock as opposed to metal run at different speeds. you should buy a tumbler rated for rock as this one is as the action is more vigorous. Make sure the tub is almost full for best performance. Vibes are hard on stones and cracks/fissures will be accentuated by these machines. The fine sanding and polishing steops should include the use of generous amouunts of plastic pellets made for the pupose to prevent chipping. They do not round the stones as much as rotary tumblers, and the rotaries are almost as fast in the first grinding stage. They are otherwise very fast, each subsequent stage taking perhaps 2 days to complete. You need to watch the thickness of the slurry as grinding commences as too-thick or thin slurry will impede tumbling. The sanding stages should give a slurry thick enough that it doesn't wipe off completely with your finger but shows some color and pattern throughthe slurry coting. if it's too thin the grit will cake up in the bottom. Add water sparingly as needed during processing. the polish should be the consistency of cream. Vibes use perhaps a third as much abrasive to process stones as rotary tumblers which is a money saver if you process a lot of stones. Finally vibratory tumblers are NOISY. Keep then in the garage or where the noise won't be disturbing. I recommend this machine for hobbyists who need a small capacity machine which is compact and economical to operate. there isn't a better value in the market. Replacement parts are readily available.
i think you can get this machine through dealers or on eBay for $100. This machine comes from Raytech directly and manufacturers tend to be more expensive than retail dealers.
